Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker
Heather Drake received her master’s degree in social work from the University of Kansas. Ms. Drake most enjoys working with persons coping with significant challenges and experiencing major transitions. “I enjoy helping people with multiple stressors figure out how to get some relief and effectively manage challenges in a way that promote continued, positive health and wellness.”
Ms. Drake has 25 years of experience in working with adults, older adults and adolescents both individually and together with couples and families. She has a strength-based, practical approach to counseling utilizing cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindful and motivational counseling strategies and EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) as appropriate to impact positive change.
Ms. Drake believes that the most important first step in counseling is to “listen deeply to what a client needs for me to know in order for to the healing relationship to begin.” She describes working alongside clients using the tools of empathy, compassion and insight to understand not just how a person is suffering, but also how they may begin to heal.
Ms. Drake describes her practice goals by saying, “It is my hope that the work we do results in clients feeling calmer, more at peace and more comfortable in their own skin. I want clients to be confident that they have the knowledge, skills and wisdom to cope with challenges and experience positive results. Perhaps most importantly, I want clients be connected, to experience meaning and purpose in their relationships with self, with others and, as desired, with God.”
